3 Ways to Use Sheet Metal in Your Sustainable Garden Plan

About Me
Industrial and Manufacturing in the Modern World

Yo! My name is Ira. Welcome to my cool new blog. The articles on this blog will address the subject of industrial and manufacturing in the modern world. This is a subject I am very familiar with, despite the fact that I have never worked in the industry. I grew up in a household in which my dad and my older brother both worked in the industrial and manufacturing sector. As a child, I learnt all kinds of very cool things while talking to my dad and accompanying him on 'take your kid to work' days. In adulthood, I have maintained a keen interest in the sector.

3 Ways to Use Sheet Metal in Your Sustainable Garden Plan

Sustainable gardens are becoming increasingly popular. They allow you to grow the more common fruits and vegetables your family eats. They also give you a food source in case you run on financially difficult times. When you begin to build your garden and plan it out, you may only turn to wood materials. Sheet metal can be an ideal material to consider as well. Here are three ways to use sheet metal in your sustainable garden that you may not have considered.

Raised Garden Beds

You can frame in a raised garden bed with wood, but the sides of the bed that hold the soil and dampness in may succumb to wood rot. You can put a waterproof seal on the wood of the raised bed, but that chemical can seep into your soil and cause issues with the soil pH balance. One way to avoid this is by using sheet metal to build the sides of the raised garden bed. The sheet metal has a reduced chance of corrosion, can hold in the soil and dampness and will not leak chemicals from waterproofing into the soil.

Garden Fencing

One of the leading issues with sustainable gardens is from animals creeping into the area and accessing the crops. You can put up a regular fence around the garden area, but sometimes animals can still dig or find a way in through the spaces of the fence itself. One way to avoid this is to use a sheet metal fencing. The sheet metal is solid, can be placed in the ground to a specific depth that works for you and can rise above ground to the height you need for the fence. This fencing will prevent animals from easily digging underneath or passing through spaces in the fencing to get to the food. You can also frame out the sheet metal to upgrade the look of the fencing.

Irrigation Ditches

If you have an irrigation issue with your garden, you can use sheet metal to create irrigation ditches. Simply dig the irrigation canals from your raised garden beds outward and sloping away from the garden bed. Line the ditches with curved sheet metal to help move the water away from the area and irrigate it to a sloped off area of land or even to a water collection area. These ditches are easy to create, are easy to maintain and can give you the ideal run off that you need.

By using sheet metal in these three ways for your sustainable garden plan, you can begin planning an upgraded plan. If you are ready to put your plan to action, visit your local sheet metal dealer or home improvement store. They can help you with types of sheet metal for your needs, ordering and delivery for larger purchases.
